Comment:

 I'll be darned—you're absolutely right, I just lucked out with `pattern
 Bar :: Foo Int` and managed to get `pattern Bar = Nothing` (or really, `f
 Bar = Nothing`) to compile even in the absence of `PatternSynonyms`.
