That patch is a one-liner to a configure script that sets
SplitSections=Yes by default while building ghc.
Perhaps the problem is caused by how the libraries being linked with
SplitSections=YES? If bgamari had SplitSections = NO in his .mk, then this
would explain why he couldn't replicate the issue.
