Comment (by simonpj):

 Yes, you could have a special rule for `catch` as we do for `case` I
 suppose.  But we can't express it in the demand signature for `catch`;
 demand signatures aren't expressive enough.

 But before cluttering up the demand analyser with special cases, I'd like
 to see evidence that it made a material difference.  I doubt it would.
