 Ah yes, I suppose it would.  Would that matter?  I suppose it'd make the
 binary bigger.

 I suppose that one could imagine modules that guarantee to contain only
 compile-time code, and hence which do not need to be linked into the final
 executable.

 Keep thinking!  I'm seeking a single, simple mechanism that'll solve
 multiple problems at once.
