 It's hard for me to provide a reproducible example since it is in a
 complex proprietary program and I have of what could be causing this
 besides that increasing the number of capabilities with -N tends to
 increase the frequency of the crashes.

 I might be able to convince my employer to opensource the "engine" (a 2D
 spread simulation, which we use to simulate wildfires). I will certainly
 try to use this ticket as an argument in favor of doing that.
