 I guess I did get a bit overly excited, on the way back from ICFP. I moved
 all my comments about generalizing this to arbitrary applications in an
 transparent way to #12626. But I still wonder what’s so special about data
 constructors, and why whatever works for data constructors does not work
 in general. I skimmed the paper, and will read it more carefully again
 now.
