 The code I gave does have a bug. If a string can be parsed as a fractional
 value, it seems it's not supposed to produce any results for integral
 types. I think we can fix this when we get to the end of the digits by
 looking ahead for `.` or `e` followed by a digit, and failing if we see
 one.
