 Nope, it doesn't not.

 On my iMac (also with El Capitan), I had ghc 7.10.2 installed and when I
 ran the same 'stack upgrade' command it seemed fine.  It downloaded
 7.10.3, all the deps, then compiled stack from source w/o any issues.
 Perhaps, my macbook env is corrupt somehow...
