 Thanks! That will definitely get me unstuck for now, though I confess I'd
 still like a way to do something like this eventually.  It'd go a long way
 towards ensuring that functional dependencies don't bit rot and cement
 them as more or less just a syntactic choice, rather than something
 radically different under the hood.
