 Mikolaj, I think the above patch will make it robust for you.  Can you
 check?

 Meanwhile, I'm going to leave this open because I ''also'' want to
 investigate making INLINE pragmas fire in the "gentle" phase, on the
 grounds that that's what the programmer said.
