 The main difference is that while we've lost the thinness of constraints
 in this narrow area, nobody uses them as they are largely regarded as a
 terrible idea with clunky syntax and, far more importantly, you explicitly
 can't actually use them as super-classes, so the damage is currently quite
 well contained.
