 The numbers are the numbers of transformations carried out in each
 iteration.  If you see `[blah, 1,1,1]` it's clue that maybe some
 transformation isn't making progress and is happening repeatedly, or
 generally that the cascade of transformations isn't working well.
 Increasing the iteration count can show this up even more vividly.
