Comment:

 Agreed that there should be such a check in the GHC 7.10 line. But HEAD
 will require LLVM 3.7+, which I imagine contains the relevant bug fix that
 is in 3.5.2. And I don't know whether there will be another release of GHC
 7.10. The GHC 8.0 release should be just a few months away anyways.

 So for that reason, even though your request is completely correct, I'm
 going to go ahead and close this ticket as wontfix.
