Comment:

 It would be nice to see this for 7.12. However, in order for that to
 happen we should have a specification. The patch here is nice, but I agree
 with Simon that we really want to have a single easy-to-follow description
 of how this feature is supposed to work.

 Bas, perhaps you could take this up?
