Comment:

 Re-opening, the patch to fix this
 (2f8b4c9330b455d4cb31c186c747a7db12a69251) caused the failure in #9186,
 which has been reverted on the GHC 7.8 branch. I'll be reverting it on
 HEAD as well soon.
