 Reid, thank you.  I have no opinion about dynamic linking (except that it
 is generally the work of the devil, and has caused us a totally
 unreasonable amount of pain), but we should all be very grateful to you
 for diagnosing what is going on.  I would never have thought of that in a
 million (or zillion) years.
