Reid's fix does in fact work and I'm inclined to go with it for RC2 since
it's slightly overdue. I've checked that with the 7.8 branch that `lens`
installs properly.
After thinking this weekend, I think this should go in. In the mean time,
we can think up a better way to fix this.
