 If you insist on your first patch, then what about

 -           CC=$(CCX) NM=$(NM) AR=$(AR_STAGE1) $(SHELL) ./configure \
 +           CC=$(CCX) NM=$(NM) AR=$(AR_STAGE1) $$SHELL ./configure \
 }}}
 which should mean that the configure is run not by detected shell and
 saved into SHELL makefile variable, but rather with the original shell of
 the user which is saved in SHELL environment variable
