 different version. Haskell Platform 2012.4 ships with GHC 7.4.1, which
 includes unix-2.5.1.1. I wouldn't expect unix-2.6.x.y to work with GHC
 7.4.1 at all.

 Fwiw, the soon to be released `unix-2.7.0.0` package should work with GHC
 7.4.x, GHC 7.6.x, and (obviously) GHC 7.8.x (See also [https://travis-
 ci.org/ghc/packages-unix current TravisCI build status])
