 This ticket:2979 seems to be related.  It looks like the problem on this
 ticket would be solved by the commit at the end of ticket:2979, namely
 7b24c3fffecbf9fc219c10f24d1472d0d03da6a1.  It doesn't look like this
 commit is in the history for the ghc-7.4.2-release tag.
