 I just built HEAD registerised (or at least, didn't explicitly --enable-
 unregisterised).  It requires the weird `-lcaps` hack still, but then my
 first example seems to work.  I will try an unregisterised HEAD and if
 that also works will mark this as resolved.  Sorry.
