 Great, thanks. You'll be at MSR in person in a month, so let's do code
 review and commit then.  Before we do:
  * We need to be clear about the codegen question that Simon M asked. It's
 not enough to work by coincidence.
  * Some performance numbers that show that there is a useful performance
 improvement would be welcome. After all, that is the whole point!
