I'm happy with the old process. I do think we should explicitly reach out to the two people that Sandy nominated, after the general call. Those two would then go through the same process as anyone else.

Hard to say. But if previous calls have not been at Christmas, then maybe a call at Christmas might reach different people. I don't think we should engineer around this... except perhaps to allow more time, not counting the week between Christmas and New Years.
