 hmm.. I thought tildes weren't technically allowed as part of URIs (or
 perhaps http:) but I was wrong, the RFCs say that it's allowed just like
 alphabetic characters.  http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc4395.txt
 http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc2616.txt . So I guess it is just an
 oversight.
