== Aims and scope of HLPP ==
<br>
<br>
As processor and system manufacturers increase the amount of both
inter- and intra-chip parallelism, it becomes crucial to provide
the software industry with high-level, clean, and efficient tools
for parallel programming. Parallel and distributed programming
methodologies are currently dominated by low-level techniques such
as send/receive message passing, or equivalently unstructured
shared memory mechanisms. Higher-level, structured approaches
offer many possible advantages and have a key role to play in the
scalable exploitation of ubiquitous parallelism.
<br>
<br>
Since 2001, the HLPP series of workshops/symposia has been a forum
for researchers developing state-of-the-art concepts, tools, and
applications for high-level parallel programming. The general
emphasis is on software quality, programming productivity, and
high-level performance models. The 10th Symposium on High-Level
Parallel Programming and Applications will be held July 10-11th in
the cultural city of Valladolid, Spain.
<br>
<br>
<br>
== Topics ==
<br>
<br>
HLPP 2017 invites papers on all topics in high-level parallel
programming, its tools and applications including, but not limited
to, the following aspects:
<br>
<br>
* High-level programming, performance models (BSP, CGM, LogP,
MPM,
<br>
etc.) and tools
<br>
* Declarative parallel programming methodologies based on
functional,
<br>
logical, data-flow, and other paradigms
<br>
* Algorithmic skeletons, patterns, etc., and constructive methods
<br>
* High-level parallelism in programming languages and libraries
(e.g,
<br>
Haskell, Scala, PGAS, etc.): semantics and implementation
<br>
* Verification of declarative parallel and distributed programs
<br>
* Efficient code generation, auto-tuning, and optimization for
<br>
parallel programming
<br>
* Model-driven software engineering for parallel systems
<br>
* Domain-specific languages: design, implementation, and
applications
<br>
* High-level programming models for heterogeneous/hierarchical
<br>
platforms with accelerators; e.g. GPU, Xeon Phi, etc.
<br>
* High-level parallel methods for large structured and
semi-structured
<br>
datasets
<br>
* Applications of parallel systems using high-level languages and
tools
<br>
* Teaching experience with high-level tools and methods
<br>
<br>
<br>
== Important dates ==
<br>
<br>
* Submission deadline: Extended to *April 21*
<br>
* Author notification: *May 16*
<br>
* Camera-ready paper due for draft proceedings: *June 16*
<br>
* Early registration deadline: *May 31*
<br>
* Late registration deadline: *June 30* (after this date the
<br>
registration will be only possible paying by cash at the
<br>
registration desk during the symposium)
<br>
* Symposium: *July 10-11*
<br>
* Camera-ready paper due for journal publication: *September 15*
<br>
<br>
<br>
== Proceedings and Journal Special Issues ==
<br>
<br>
Accepted papers will be distributed as informal draft proceedings
during the symposium. Additionally, accepted papers will be
published in a special issue of a renowned international journal.
Depending on their subject, some papers will be selected for the
*International Journal of Parallel Programming* (Springer), while
others will be selected for <b class="moz-txt-star"><span
class="moz-txt-tag">*</span>Concurrency and Computation:
Practice and Experience<span class="moz-txt-tag">*</span></b>
(Wiley). We expect the special issues to appear online-first by
the end of 2017 and the printed edition in 2018.
<br>
<br>
<br>
== Paper submission ==
<br>
<br>
Papers submitted to HLPP2017 must describe original research
results and must not have been published or simultaneously
submitted anywhere else. Manuscripts must be prepared with the
Springer IJPP Latex macro package <a
class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E"
href="http://static.springer.com/sgw/documents/468198/application/zip/LaTeX.zip"><http://static.springer.com/sgw/documents/468198/application/zip/LaTeX.zip></a>,
using the single column option
(\documentclass[smallextended]{svjour3}), and submitted via the
EasyChair Conference System <a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E"
href="https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=hlpp2017"><https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=hlpp2017></a>,
as one PDF file. The strict page limit for initial submission and
camera-ready version is 18 pages in the aforementioned format.
Each paper will receive a minimum of three reviews by members of
the program committee. Papers will be selected based on their
originality, relevance, technical clarity, and quality of
presentation. At least one author of each accepted paper must
register for the HLPP 2017 symposium and present the paper. After
the symposium, you have ample time to revise the paper
incorporating potential comments and remarks of your colleagues.
