 Richard and I had a good discussion about this.  Happily, we are now back
 to addressing
 the original problem, rather than chasing perf ghosts.  We've agreed a
 path forwards
 and he's going to execute on it.  So you can down-tools for now.

 (Note to self: Richard and I wrote notes on the FC-call channel, dated
 today.)
