 I think you're right that the assertion is incorrect. Indeed, if it were
 correct, then the conditional above it, namely

 {{{
             if (((bh_info == &stg_BLACKHOLE_info)
                  && ((StgInd*)bh)->indirectee != (StgClosure*)tso)
                 || (bh_info == &stg_WHITEHOLE_info))
 }}}

 would not need to check `((StgInd*)bh)->indirectee != (StgClosure*)tso)`
 because that would always be true.
