 I observed a similar error for a different package. Also on ghc-7.8.4 and
 both 32/64bit x86. In my case it seems to be connected to template-
 haskell-2.11.0.0, i.e. if i constrain template-haskell to ==2.9.0.0,
 compilation works again.
