 I actually quite like this idea. I do think it's too late for 8.0. And the
 long-term plan is to make `Type` (that is, `*`) and `TypeRep` to be the
 same thing. So `* :: *` really will make sense! But perhaps if this idea
 came along earlier, we would have adopted it.
