 Another simple but perhaps unsurprising observation:

 If the call to `addBndrRules` in `simplRecBind` is short-circuited
 (`addBndrRules env _ out_id = return (env, out_id)`) compilation
 completes. Neither of the other calls to `addBndrRules` have this property
 when short-circuited.
