 I'm generally in favour of following gcc; that is, to make the fine-grain
 flags take priority over the -Ox bundles, regardless of order.  (I thought
 we ''were'' following gcc, so it's a surprise to find that we are not.)

 I'm a bit concerned about changing behavior though.  It's an un-forced
 change that may disrupt some users.

 I don't really know how to reconcile these two thoughts.  Perhaps someone
 would like to float the idea on a more widely-read forum (ghc-users,
 #haskell IRC) and seek opinions?
