 The blow-up in 7.10 appears to be due to the introduction of silent
 superclass parameters, a notion which has been replaced in `master`
 (namely a6f0f5ab45b2643b561e0a0a54a4f14745ab2152 and surrounding commits).
 I'm working on backporting these to the 7.10 branch.
