 I actually tested both, sorry. Just checked: yes, if I disable short-outs
 and CSE, it goes away. If I only disable CSE, it goes away. This is still
 all on GHC 7.10.

 I'll test on HEAD and STABLE again when I get a chance and post the 4-way
 results.
