 dmcclean: can you say more precisely what "this" is?  There are various
 designs floating about in this ticket, and comment:14 indicates that the
 one in the Ticket Description would not solve the problem identified in
 comment:11.

 Better still, can you give a concrete, standalone example of what you
 want/need?
