Comment:

 The original poster claims that algebraic datakinds, available since 7.4,
 solves the original problem. Although Conor's comment:7 is still very
 relevant, I'm not sure what is served by keeping this ticket open. I'm
 planning to address the issues in comment:7 in my dependent types branch.
